All through history, God has commanded His people to build temples. Temples are Holy Places, literally Houses of the Lord
dedicated for sacred gospel ordinances, worship, and prayer. It is within temples that God's children make sacred promises with Him. These promises, called covenants, allow us to be sealed (connected) to our families after death and return to live again with our Father in Heaven.
We are all God's children and He loves each of us. The blessings of the temple are for all of His children: those living on earth and those who have passed on. He desires each of His children to return to live with Him again, so He allows those who are worthy to enter His temple to do proxy work for their ancestors (stand in place for those who have died). Any person who desires the blessings of the Temple in their life may have them if they are willing to keep the commandments and make and keep covenants with God.

Arizona desert region was having a heat wave, 123° degrees! We came to the Mesa Temple at 5 am to take our wedding pictures so they wouldn't be so washed out looking, but the actual wedding didn't take place until later that afternoon. It was my second marriage—
I was a divorcee with one beautiful little six year old daughter. I entered the
Holy Temple of God and was sealed for Time and All Eternity to my eternal companion, a widower with four small sons ranging in age from one year to six. Do you remember the comic “Family Circus”? Throw in a little “Far Side” and there you have my life! In no way the “perfect fairy-tale” existence, and it is full of trials and difficulties. But because we have the aid of spiritual blessings we receive from keeping our Temple covenants we are able to solve
life's problems.
